The National Hockey League is one of the four major sports leagues in North America along with the NBA, MLB and NFL. It is comprised of 30 teams spread across North America, 23 in the U.S. and 7 in Canada. Like the other sports leagues, the NHL is separated into two conferences, the Eastern and Western Conference. Each are then separated down into three more divisions. In the Eastern Conference, the divisions are the Atlantic Division, Northeast Division and Southeast Division. For the Western Conference there is the Central Division, Northwest Division and Pacific Division.
From 1942 to 1967, the NHL played in the era of the "Original Six" and is the birth of the NHL as we know today. Those six teams, which were the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, are still in the league. But through expansion and growth, the league continues to gain momentum with fans who love to buy hockey tickets.
The pinnacle of the NHL season is without question the Stanley Cup playoffs. The intensity gets ramped up, and the quality of hockey is unmatched. Whether you buy hockey tickets or watch the games on TV, you will want to see these games. When the Stanley Cup Finals kick off, even non%20hockey fans begin to tune in and pay attention. But nothing will quite be like having Stanley Cup tickets and being there in person.
It’s not the Original 6 anymore — or even 30 — but the National Hockey League’s 31 teams during the 2017-18 season will surely provide you exciting goals and physical play to bring you to the games and make you jump out of your seat.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the verge of becoming a dynasty after winning their second consecutive Stanley Cup championship in 2017. Pittsburgh defeated the Nashville Predators in six games to become the first team in 20 years to win consecutive championships in hockey. Captain Sidney Crosby and the Penguins don’t look to be going anywhere this season and are a must-see team if there has ever been one.
Nashville, the final team to make the playoffs in 2017, had a Cinderella ride to the Finals, but they have the talent, led by defenseman P.K. Subban, to make another run at their first championship again.
The Predators upset the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs last year, disappointing hockey’s biggest fanbase. Still, the Blackhawks, behind two of the game’s brightest stars, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, look to make one more run at the Cup. Chicago has won three championships this decade.
There’s exciting hockey out west, as well, with future Conn Smythe trophy winner Connor McDavid attempting to bring the Edmonton Oilers back to relevance. The 20-year-old tallied 100 points in his first full season last year.
One team to keep an eye out this season is the league’s 31st team, the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Becoming the Sin City’s first professional sports team, the Golden Knights are looking to excite a new region of the country. Don’t miss a chance to see their black sweaters come to your arena for the first time in the organization’s history.
Whether you’re looking for great saves, flashy goals, or fights, the NHL has you covered, so make sure not to miss a period of the action this season by securing your tickets now!
