Boxing is a popular sports competition where two individuals, most often wearing protective gear and gloves and also other protective equipments like mouthpieces and hand wraps, throw punches at one another for a pre-determined period of time in a ring. In a match, the two boxers will circle one another with their hands and feet facing out while inside the circular perimeter. When the bout is over, the two boxers will exchange punches and move back and forth within the ring until one player is defeated. Boxing has been known to be a sport that improves strength, stamina, coordination, and self-confidence in its practitioners. However, those who have participated in boxing competitions have rarely seen a fat person come out a winner. Because of this, there have been many rumors about various aspects of the boxing sport, especially the effects of the boxing on the body and mind of the participants.

Although it is believed by some that boxing's effects on the body are only temporary, other experts say that boxing does have a very good effect on overall health. Through careful training and hard work, boxers develop punching techniques that can handle a punch or kick to the body that would normally be difficult to handle. Also, boxers constantly learn how to defend themselves against certain moves. With regular training and practice, a boxer is able to become very strong and powerful, able to defend himself from attacks in almost any situation. The sport itself promotes body conditioning, developing the muscles and internal organs of the body through the constant bouting and training involved in the sport. However, some experts note that although boxing has been associated with physical health benefits, it is important to note that there is no proof that it can completely cure a person of any type of physical ailment.

For some people, who participate in boxing matches, the fights themselves are a release of stress and tension. Some fighters will get into the ring without having gone through strenuous exercise routines in order to "heat up" before entering the ring, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it is said that fighters who warm up prior to a bout are better prepared physically and emotionally to face the challenge of fighting. Also, there are many professional fighters who do not engage in regular exercise, and yet they are still successful in the sport. It is purely a matter of choice as to whether you participate in the sport or not.
